What A Tweet, along with Fishbowl Frenzy, is a great intro to Tricks imho. But for an aficionado like yourself, probably not too challenging. Beautiful artwork as you say. Spinning A Tail and Those Blooming Cats were more of a challenge for me. They…

Hey Erik. Nice review as always. I've often considered this one. I too love the artwork, but at one sword and only forty pieces, I'll probably pass in favour of a larger puzzle. Didn't you have one of Edith's cat tricks on order? Has it arrived yet…

Thanks Erik. Looks amazing. Looking forward to the full review. Strange beasts, empty interlocks. I really don't like them. But they didn't bother me at all in Something To Crow About. Now Turtle Soup on the other hand ...

Sure thing. Let me know when you're next in London. I work for the BBC, so am in India for the elections. It's been very busy. Yesterday was a 14-hour slog. But it's an interesting place to be and the people are great. Love the food too. They say t…

Hi Laura! I've been puzzling Staves less than a year. It was an article in the magazine Departures that got me started (an American Express magazine). I think the article was published in the US a while ago, but I only received it last June (or Jul…

Hmmm. Must check out more Sondheim. I've seen Into The Woods, and heard last week that a mate of mine will be performing in it late this year. Went to an evening of songs once too, but it wasn't staged and had just a piano accompaniment. Side by Sid…

Hi June! You're so right about the band drowning out some of the lyrics. The CD is nicely balanced though. Next time you're n London, drop me a line!

What's your favorite puzzle and why?
Tusk 'til Dawn. It was my first. Tricky enough to provide a decent challenge, yet easy enough to hold my attention and stop me from giving up. I love Betsy's artwork, the colours really work well together, and the little elephants are so cute.

Hi David! I've always admired the Edith Bingham cat series yet have never gotten around to purchasing them. By my estimation Those Blooming Cats
hasn't been offered for about 15 years. No idea why as it is the nicest of the four in my opinion. The only picture of it appears in the 1993/94 catologue.
I don't have a scanner so lets hope Paula can get you a photo. I'm sure you will love it though. It is rated at 4 bolts and contains 130 pieces and involves
our 2 cats surrounded by a floral arrangement. Wish I could have been more helpful

Hi Elizabeth! I'm a composer too, but nothing very serious. Little jingles and things for radio and TV. I hire in session musicians for the various gigs I do. For that particular session we recorded the orchestra in sections, so brass & percussion in the morning, winds in the afternoon, and then the strings in the evening (which was when the photo was taken). The end result was fun, news themes with full orchestra plus drums and lots of electric guitars.

Congratulations on your first Stave. I've bought a couple of puzzles, but am waiting for them to arrive, so I haven't actually puzzled any Staves yet. I'm a bit worried that they'll be too difficult when they arrive! We'll see...

Hi David,

I saw the photo of you conducting a symphony for a BBC recording: how fabulous! Which symphony do you conduct? My fiance, Ed, is a classical composer---he was very excited to see the photo, too.

I also notice you're playing the Match the Piece game and coming close to winning week after week---I hope you win soon! Good luck.

Cheers,

Elizabeth

Hi David,
Sounds like you must have some very nice mechanical puzzles, too! Nick Baxter just auctioned off a bunch of my mechanical puzzles in phase 13 of the Ergatoudis Collection; but I still have several nice ones by Kagen Schaefer (Maze Burr, Pattern Box, Disc Box, Snake Escape) and Trevor Wood (Takashima's Temple, Juno's Framed Burr, New Sonneveld Burr). The Disc Box will auction in phase 14: and maybe the Temple? Stave puzzles rock! I see you like teasers. One of my favorite teasers is, When Nature Calls: a great challenge and a veerryy creative assembly. Best Regards, Ron.
